The Commercial Bank of Dubai was incorporated in Dubai in 1969 as a public shareholding company. Commercial Bank of Dubai is currently 20% owned by the Government of Dubai with the remaining shares widely held by UAE nationals including some of the most prominent local families. CBD operates in the UAE, through a network of 20 branches, 4 pay Offices and 40 ATMs. It is a full service commercial bank and is active in all sectors of the economy.

Over the years, the bank has built a strong relationship with many of the well-known business houses in Dubai and the other Emirates and demonstrates a strong Trade Finance Portfolio.

In 2000, CBD won the Dubai Quality Appreciation Program Award followed by the Dubai Quality Award for the year 2002. In 2004 CBD won the JP Morgan 'Elite' Award for funds transfer operations. Department of Economic Development conferred CBD with the prestigious Dubai Human Development Award (DHD) in 2004. CBD's Human Resources Admin & Planning & Performance Unit received the ISO 9001: 2000 certifications during 2004. All Dubai branches of CBD are members of the Dubai Service Excellence Scheme (DSES).
